24/05/2016: League final week
Despite a late run by the Black Horse, the Hospital Club have confirmed the wooden spoon with a home defeat in their final match against Laughing Fish W. Meanwhile, with one postponed match outstanding, Glynde Club could still force a play-off with Hikers Rest A for the runner-up spot.
However, there's no doubt about the league winners: congratulations to Laughing Fish K who, in their final Lewes season, have once again taken the title.
15/11/2015: League Cup 2015-16
The Lewes committee has decided that a new format - the All England "Alternate (Triangle) Rules" - will be tried for the league cup this season, in place of the handicap system that has been used for the last two seasons. The rules are included in the AEBBA Rules document, and they are reproduced below.
We appreciate that this won't be the first choice of all our members but we hope everyone will give it a chance and, of course, feedback from the season will determine whether the format continues subsequently. As before, the aim of the League Cup competition is to allow the weaker teams to compete with the stronger ones on more level terms. It remains to be seen whether the new format will meet this aim.
Alternate (Triangle) Rules
Note that if all balls are cleared from the table at any time, they are returned to the 'triangle' position and the player on the table continues their break. All other rules, including the draw and order of play, etc., are as normal.

League Cup Rules - 2011/12
The league cup competition this season will be "Off-the-spot with a 3K cap".
Matches will consist of 5 single games, as in normal league matches, with opponents drawn randomly. The away team will have the break in games 1, 3 and 5. All shots must be played with the cue ball on the spot.
No individual break shall exceed 3000. If, after any shot, the current player's break reaches or exceeds 3000, the scorer shall call 'end of break' and exactly 3000 will be added to the player's score. The other player will then take their turn at the table, and will play the balls from where the previous player left them.
All other playing rules will be as for normal league games.
The competition will be decided on the results of 10 matches - one point per game won, as in the league competition. For the first segment of the competition, teams will play each of the other teams, either home or away (7 games). When this segment is complete, the top 4 in the table will play each other (3 games); and similarly with the bottom 4. These games will be at the reverse venue, as compared with the earlier meeting.

League Cup - Rule Change
The committee have approved a slight change to the rules for the League Cup competition, to be effective immediately.
In future, the order of play in the second leg of the two doubles will be the reverse of the order in the first leg. The player who played last in the first leg will take the break in the second leg, and the player who broke in the first leg will play last in the second leg.
This is to try to avoid the possibility of players being shut out of the game for both legs if one player plays particularly well.
Please see the full rules here.
User Registration - the website has been enhanced to allow users to register and authenticate themselves on the site. Among other benefits (tba) this will enable users to enter results online. Register now!
Note: results cannot now be submitted through the website unless you are logged in.
League Cup Competition - starts on 15 November, and this year we have a new format:
Matches will consist of three games of two legs each. The first two games
will be doubles, and the third singles.
Each leg will be played under normal rules - not off the spot.
Scoring is 1 pt per leg plus 1 pt for aggregate score.
Please see the
full rules here.

Beermatt Brewers top of the league! - can it be true?
Yes... |
New season - started Monday 28 September.
We have nine teams again this season and, in addition to the normal league competition, we have the league cup which will again be under the ‘off the spot’ rule. This year the league cup is being run as a single division; each team will play every other team once, either home or away. There will be no play-off; the position in the division will determine the title.
There are two new innovations this season:
1) Rule change affecting the (Open) Doubles competition
From this
season, players who take the break in the first or second game of a
doubles match, may not take the break in the third game. This rule does
not affect the Mixed Doubles. In this competition, the lady player must
take the first turn for their pair in every game.
2) New Captains’ Cup competition
This is a one-day competition for
team captains to be held on 1 March - venue to be decided.
Eddie Pilbeam - Sadly for those that remember Eddie, he died on Friday 26th June 2009 after a fight against cancer. Eddie was a long standing member of the league, and served as secretary for several years. Sussex Express Announcements

Half time - at the halfway point in the league competition the Sportsman have a narrow one point lead over the Bridge with a further gap of six points to CKRBL in third. The Droops could narrow the gap if they win their match postponed from November.

03/11/2008 Brewers Droops v Horns Lodge (played Friday 2nd January)

We have eight teams this season and, in addition to the normal league competition, we have the league cup which will again be under the ‘off the spot’ rule. This year the league cup is divided into two divisions; each team will play teams in their own division home and away, but they will also play teams in the other division just once each. The top team in each division will play off in the final.
Note: The Chailey Lodge team has now been replaced by the Stand Up Inn, Lindfield.
Finals night 2006 summary - the Bridge took the Team
Knockout title after a close match against CKRBL. Kevin Stoner took the
mens title and Jean Over the ladies. Results round-up here, further reports
to follow. The rest of the silverware went mostly to the Bridge with Derek
Taylor and Jenny Edwards reserving some for the host club.
And who is this
sneaking off with the league champions trophy?
League Cup ends in tie - after the last week of the League Cup (off the spot) competition the Bridge and Chailey Lodge are level on both points and matches won. The title will be decided by a play-off at the Firemans Arms on Mon 22 May.
Championship goes to the wire - The league championship will be decided at the Bridge on the last league match of the season, where Bridge entertain current champions Black Horse. The title will go to the match winners as recent results have left the two teams virtually level.
